John Rudolph - Snow School Director

John Rudolph (Rudolph) comes from Alta, Utah in the United States, where he has been teaching skiing for the past seven winters. Prior to that he taught in Colorado. Rudolph is a PSIA alpine level 3 certified and telemark level 1 instructor. In Utah Rudolph mostly teaches intermediate to expert skiers with a focus on learning skills to ski better off piste - whatever the conditions of the day are. There, Rudolph is also the head coach for a teen freeride programme, which concentrates on fall-line skiing in steep double black terrain and getting lots of air. Rudolph is very passionate about skiing and sharing this sport that with others. In the warmer months, Rudolph has worked as an Outward Bound instructor in Oregon, leading teenagers on whitewater rafting and mountaineering expeditions, and as a painter in Salt Lake City, Utah. In his spare time, Rudolph is an avid rock climber and ski mountaineer. He also enjoys travelling around in his caravan, climbing and skiing.

Claire Newell - Telemark Instructor

Claire grew up skiing at Broken River and has many fond memories of sliding around the slopes here. After many years of alpine skiing Claire was introduced to telemarking by her future husband Jim. She has enjoyed the challenge of learning to telemark and is passionate about helping others to enjoy this sport. Claire is a Level 2 NZSIA certified telemark instructor. Off the snow Claire is also the Marketing Manager for Broken River and works part-time as a Plant Ecologist.

Jim Henderson - Telemark Instructor

Jim began alpine skiing in his early 20's at Broken River and started telemark skiing while working for a year at Scott Base in Antartica. He has never looked back and has continued to promote this sport and encourage others in their telemarking. Jim is a Level 2 NZSIA certified telemark instructor. When the boards aren't strapped to his feet, you'll find Jim exploring the mountains on foot and mountain bike, both through work and with the family.
