Rodger Poole – Broken River Ski School Director

With a passion for skiing that is tough to match, Rodger started ski instructing because he figured that if he was employed in another line of work, he’d just spend all his days off and money on skiing anyway so why not ski for work and for play. That was twelve years ago and now Rodger travels year round in search of snow and a mountain to ski. A native of Vernon, British Columbia, he calls Silverstar home in the Canadian winters where he is a trainer at the Silverstar Ski School. When he is not working for the ski school, he coaches racing on the weekends and travels around British Columbia conducting CSIA courses to qualify other instructors. While coaching the race team at Whakapapa last season, Rodger and Emily visited Broken River for only a day and knew they had to come back for more.

His technical skiing and teaching knowledge was mentored by long-time Broken River and Canadian ski legend, Norman Kreutz who taught skiing at Broken River in the early 80’s. “It is a great honour to teach at a club field with so much Canadian Ski Instructing history”

Emily Morel – Instructor and BR Assistant

With a BSc in Kinesiology, Emily naturally took to teaching and coaching a multitude of sports, not the least of which is Alpine Skiing. Emily has taught skiing at Silverstar in British Columbia, Charlotte Pass in Australia, and Whakapapa on the North Island of NZ where she coached the alpine race team. She is dedicated to her own technical and teaching improvement and currently holds a CSIA Level III instructor and a CSCF Level I coach. Her fun-filled lessons are enthusiastic and with endless creativity, very popular with both young and old.

In her Canadian winters, she is the Ski School Director at Sovereign Lake Nordic Club where she teaches another one of her passions, Nordic Skiing. We are very lucky to have Emily on our staff and I’m sure you’ll see her on the hill and around Broken River.

Sam Worsp – Instructor

A local’s favourite will also be a member of the Broken River Ski School team this season. Sam Worsp started his long ski career at the tender age of 4 at Whakapapa’s Happy Valley on Mt. Ruapehu. Since those first fun days of sliding, Sam has followed the snow all around the world working seasons in Canada’s Lake Louise, Japan’s Snowy Niseko, and here at home at Hanmer Springs and of course Broken River. Sam is self-employed as a Graphic Designer and currently holds a NZSIA Level II.
