The Broken River Community
We invite you to be part of our unique Kiwi ski-culture. We are extremely proud of our Ski Club and ski area.
We are a close-knit "family" of real families, pseudo aunts, uncles and cousins, friends and visitors, linked by a passion for the mountains, having fun in the snow and the thrill of a good powder run. However, it is more than just the skiing and the great terrain– it’s about the friendly atmosphere and sharing your passion with like-minded people. Our native Kea, the world's only alpine parrot, are ever-present, adolescent members of our “family” keeping everyone on their toes with humorous, cheeky behaviour.
We are very much a family Club. Families have grown up together at Broken River and have worked and played together on the slopes and in the lodges both winter and summer. It is not uncommon to see three generations of one family skiing together. We have a keen group of retired members who are up skiing regularly at "the Club". Other less active older members still have a strong interest in what is going on and enjoy social activities together off the mountain.
Palmer Lodge is the social hub during the day. There is an opportunity to meet everyone – 60 to 150 depending on how busy the day is. The deck is particularly popular on sunny days. This is a great place to enjoy a quiet drink and relive the mornings runs. The sumptuous smell of steak or wild venison wafting from the BBQ adds an additional dimension to your mountain experience.
By night the accommodation lodges are buzzing with stories of the days snow adventures, as well as discussions on any topic you care to imagine and a card game or two thrown in for good measure. It’s a great chance to catch up with fellow friends and make new friends.
Come summer we are back up the mountain to help maintain and improve our Club facilities, instilling a sense of ownership for “our Mountain” in all of us.
