Broken River has great packed powder conditions at present. The cool, clear conditions have kept the snow light and dry. An additional 1 cm fell late yesterday adding a lovely velvety finish. This has made for smooth turning around the mountain.
Our first week has gone well. Everyone has had lots of fun around the mountain and down in the huts. The improvements in everyone’s skiing has been very noticeable - thanks to excellent lessons. Well done everyone and thanks to our instructors Mark and Lucy.

Broken River was a hive of activity at Easter with 30 people up for a four-day work party. Like other “club” fields, Broken River members help out with maintenance to keep everything running in ship-shape order and get the mountain ready for the coming winter.
We had people down in the valley gravelling the road, with others up on the highest point in Broken River Basin working on preparation to replace the Ridge Tow return wheel which was blown over by high winds early in the summer. In between these two groups others were working around the huts getting odd jobs out of the way.
Great to see both familiar club faces and new members at Easter. Work parties are a great way to make new friends and spend time with all your old ski buddies. The evenings are always alive with interesting debate and tales of ski adventures.
In return for work members are able to get credits towards accommodation or lift tickets. Complete 6 work party days and you are eligible to get a free 2010 season lift pass. If you would like to find out about work parties coming up email us at: info@brokenriver.co.nz

WHAT a weekend! Over 30 cm of new snow fell with the cold southerly blast that swept up the country last Thursday and Friday. The scenery looked like mid winter with 10 cm of snow right down to HW 73.
The front cleared mid Saturday morning and then we had blue skies for the rest of the weekend. Some great skiing to be had, especially in sheltered areas over around the Rugby and Access Tows. The Rugby Tow had packed powder conditions by early Saturday afternoon with similar great conditions all of Sunday as well. Fun to step back to mid July conditions!
Allan’s Basin was awesome when it opened on Sunday with the best tracks found in Double Bowl and beyond on Hamilton Peak.
A great weekend was had by all. The photos below tell the story! We’ll continue to be open for weekends in October so come on up - lots of great riding, relaxing times on Palmer Lodge deck and long days to really enjoy it all.
